Giraffe

The average male giraffe stands between 14 and 17 feet tall and weighs 1,200 kilograms (2,650 pounds). Giraffes are herbivores, primarily eating leaves and grass, but have strong hooves with which they can defend themselves.

Rhinoceros

The rhinoceros is a large, strong herbivore. The adult black or white rhino has no natural predators other than humans.

Rhinos have a large horn made of keratin (the same substance that hair and fingernails are made of) and a protective skin that can be up to 5 cm thick. A full-grown male White Rhinoceros can weigh over 3,000 kg (6,600 pounds), reach lengths of up to 4.2 m (13.9 feet) and stand 185 cm (73 inches) high at the shoulder.

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly bears weigh up to 450 kg (1,000 pounds) and stand one meter tall at the shoulder.

Grizzlies have a broad diet, which involves scavenging, eating fish, and preying on large mammals such as moose, deer, sheep, elk, bison, caribou, and even black bears. “Grizzlies are considered by some experts to be the most aggressive bears” (Wikipedia).

Gorilla

Gorillas range in size from 165 to 175 cm (5 ft 5 in – 5 ft 9 in) tall and from 140 to 204.5 kg (310 to 450 lb) heavy. Silverback (adult male) gorillas have large, protruding canine teeth and long, powerful arms.

Gorillas are considered highly intelligent animals.

Hippopotamus

The average adult male hippopotamus weighs between 1500 and 1800 kg (3,300 to 4,000 lbs) and is 3.5 meters (11 ft) long and 1.5 meters (5 ft) tall at the shoulder.

Elephant

The African elephant species is the largest land mammal on Earth.

The elephant is the largest land mammal in the world, standing up to 4 metres (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighing as much as 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb).

Elephants are herbivores, but they are capable of defending themselves with their feet, trunks, and tusks. An elephant’s tusks can reach over 3 m (10 ft) in length and weigh over 90 kg (200 lb).

Cougar

The cougar watches alertly as it awaits its opponent.

Cougars–also known as mountain lions, pumas, catamounts, or panthers–stand about 60 to 76 cm (2.0 to 2.5 ft) tall at the shoulders, reach lengths of up to 2.4 m (9 ft) nose to tail, and, in rare cases, weigh as much as 118 kg (260 lbs). “A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources include ungulates such as deer, elk, and bighorn sheep” (Wikipedia).

Komodo Dragon

The Komodo dragon “is the largest living species of lizard, growing to an average length of 2 to 3 metres (6.6 to 9.8 ft) and weighing around 70 kilograms (150 lbs)” (Wikipedia). It is a hunter and a scavenger. “The Komodo dragon is able to see in color, but has poor visual discrimination of stationary objects” (Wikipedia).
