Boa Constrictor

A boa constrictor is a snake that can grow up to twelve feet long and can weigh up to 30 kg (80 pounds). Boa constrictors wrap themselves around prey and crush them in their strong coils.

Komodo Dragon

The komodo dragon relaxes confidently before its match.

The Komodo dragon “is the largest living species of lizard, growing to an average length of 2 to 3 metres (6.6 to 9.8 ft) and weighing around 70 kilograms (150 lbs)” (Wikipedia). It is a hunter and a scavenger. “The Komodo dragon is able to see in color, but has poor visual discrimination of stationary objects” (Wikipedia).

This is the fourth match of the second round of the Winners’ Bracket: Polar Bear vs. Elephant. Information is taken from Wikipedia.

The polar bear and the elephant will face off in an open grassy field with a medium-sized icy pool along one side.

Polar Bear

The polar bear prowls across the snow and ice.

The polar bear is the world’s largest land-based carnivore. A male polar bear weighs an average of 400–680 kg (880–1,500 lbs) and measures 2.4–3 m (7.9–9.8 ft) in length.

Polar bears primarily hunt seals, catching them as they emerge from holes in the ice. They are not generally aggressive, and prefer to escape rather than fight. If they are hungry, however, they can become confrontational, and have been known to kill humans.

Elephant

The African elephant species is the largest land mammal on Earth.

The elephant is the largest land mammal in the world, standing up to 4 metres (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighing as much as 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb).

Elephants are herbivores, but they are capable of defending themselves with their feet, trunks, and tusks. An elephant’s tusks can reach over 3 m (10 ft) in length and weigh over 90 kg (200 lb).

The lion and the cougar will face off in a grassy field, with a few scattered trees.

Lion

The lion waits patiently for its match to begin.

Lions can reach weights of up to 250 kg (550 pounds) or higher. “With powerful legs, a strong jaw, and 8 cm (3.1 in) long canine teeth, the lion can bring down and kill large prey” (Wikipedia).

Cougar

The cougar watches alertly as it awaits its opponent.

Cougars–also known as mountain lions, pumas, catamounts, or panthers–stand about 60 to 76 cm (2.0 to 2.5 ft) tall at the shoulders, reach lengths of up to 2.4 m (9 ft) nose to tail, and, in rare cases, weigh as much as 118 kg (260 lbs). “A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources include ungulates such as deer, elk, and bighorn sheep” (Wikipedia).

This is the seventh match of the first round of the Winners’ Bracket: Polar Bear vs. Human (unarmed). Information is taken from Wikipedia.

The polar bear and the human will face off in a sparsely wooded area bordering on a small lake. There are rocks and branches along the lakeshore and under the trees.

Polar Bear

The polar bear is the world’s largest land-based carnivore. A male polar bear weighs an average of 400–680 kg (880–1,500 lbs) and measures 2.4–3 m (7.9–9.8 ft) in length.

Human

This average human male is mostly unarmed, though he is holding a non-combat stapler.

Human beings occupy the highest position in the global food chain, due to their intelligence, their use of tools, and their ability to work as a group to bring down large prey or domesticate animals in order to create a sustainable food source.

An average human male has a height of 1.5 to 1.8 m (5 to 6 feet) and a weight of 76–83 kg (168–183 lbs), though humans are occasionally seen to exceed 7.5 feet in height and 1,000 lbs in weight.
