This is the second match of the first round of the Winners’ Bracket: Hippopotamus vs. Rhinoceros. Information is taken from Wikipedia.
The hippo and the rhino will face off in a grassy field, with a few scattered trees and a medium-sized pool of water in one corner.
Hippopotamus

A Hippopotamus, readying itself for battle.
The average adult male hippopotamus weighs between 1500 and 1800 kg (3,300 to 4,000 lbs) and is 3.5 meters (11 ft) long and 1.5 meters (5 ft) tall at the shoulder.
“Hippopotamuses are very violent-tempered animals. Adult hippos are hostile toward crocodiles, which often live in the same pools and rivers as hippos. This is especially so when hippo calves are around…. Hippos are very aggressive towards humans and are often considered one of the most dangerous large animals in Africa” (Wikipedia).
Rhinoceros

A rhinoceros, set to compete in the War of the Wilds.
The rhinoceros is a large, strong herbivore. The adult black or white rhino has no natural predators other than humans.
Rhinos have a large horn made of keratin (the same substance that hair and fingernails are made of) and a protective skin that can be up to 5 cm thick. A full-grown male White Rhinoceros can weigh over 3,000 kg (6,600 pounds), reach lengths of up to 4.2 m (13.9 feet) and stand 185 cm (73 inches) high at the shoulder.

So right now Hippo is winning by one. I think this one is going to be close.
I can’t decide which to vote for, myself. Hippos are freaking monsters, but how are they going to get through the rhino’s five-centimeter-thick armor? Or do they need to? Will this just come down to a ramming battle to see which one dies of internal bruising/bleeding first?
I think the hippo gets a slight advantage from being able to hide and recuperate in the pool of water. But the hippo is at a disadvantage because it will bleed sooner; it is protected mostly by fat and padding, not by armor.
So I *think* I’m leaning towards rhino. Then again, the hippo, IMO, probably has more of a killer instinct.
I don’t know. Why are other people voting for one or the other? I’ll reserve my vote until the end as a potential tiebreaker, so it’s in your best interest to convince me. : )
Rhino all the way. Horn for +dmg, plus the fact that the thing ways like 2x that of a hippo. Even in a pure shoving match, the rhino has an easy win.
I’d have to go with the Rhino too… Hippos may be more dangerous to humans supposedly… but that’s just because they’re more aggressive… and because people are far more helpless to run away in the water. Rhinos are just bigger and better equipped (the horn) than Hippos. Also… there’s a lot more land then river in Africa… so it’s probably easier for people to avoid Rhinos than Hippos (if you gotta go fishing… you gotta go fishing.. right?)… hence the higher degree of Hippo attacks. So, in short… Hippos are more dangerous toward Humans due to their temperament, etc… but Rhinos still beat Hippos in a fair fight…
Rhino!
A White Rhino adult male apparently killed a full grown Hippo male in a fight on a privately owned ranch. The hippo got speared just inside the rear of the right leg. This was however a white rhino. A hippo did once kill a Black Rhino by biting into it mid on. It is recorded in Walkers encyclopedia of wild animals and occurred ata watering hole. White Rhino can be twice the size of Black Rhino though, with massive horns which can turn over or penetrate a jeep…..White Rhino!
Well you’ll just have to help the Rhino get through the Losers’ Bracket and hope for a rematch then, eh? : )
hippo would win…. 2 foot long lower tusks would ruin a rhino… and the rhino is retarded and less agile than the hippo… they both have armor… rhino has thick skin which is good and all, but the hippo has a very thick layer of fat making it hard to kill as well
Rhino gores the big fat ugly hippo ftw!
no a hippos tusks can barely reach a foot long
a male white rhinos horn can reach 6 ft. long and it is heavier and stronger than a hippo while a hippo teeth aren’t as strong as a cats or crocodile it couldn’t brake the rhinos hide where the rhino could cut through the hippos skin and can take on every animal from water to the african savannah, even black rhinos are too much for a hippo
a hyena as razor sharp teeth so a clan of hyenas would be more than a match for a elephant
