I’m looking forward to the releases of several games in the next few months. Guitar Hero 4 is a must-buy, and I’ll more than likely be picking up the Rock Band 2 disc for the extra songs, but there are some more traditional single-player experiences on the way, as well.

Dead Space is a survival horror game coming out on October 14 and 20 on XBox 360 and PC, respectively. Highlights are a fully in-game UI system where the HUD is projected holographically from the protagonist’s equipment and the player’s health is displayed in lights on the back of the character’s spacesuit. It’s a really neat approach to a User Interface, but of course the important aspects are the gameplay and the atmosphere/writing. The action looks tactical and combat-oriented enough that it should be pretty fun, and the atmosphere is dark and gritty and intriguing. The quality of the writing remains to be seen, but if the storyline is as good as the atmosphere, I’ll be giving this game a good solid look. I’ll probably go for the XBox 360 version: I find I prefer using a gamepad for single-player shooters.

The Prince of Persia franchise is being rebooted with a whole new style, both in terms of art and gameplay. I’ve only played the first GameCube PoP game, Sands of Time, but I loved it and I’ve been waiting for another opportunity to do some third-person wall-running and sword-swinging acrobatics. The new cel-shaded art style looks amazing. Again, I’ll have to choose between XBox 360 and PC when it comes out on December 2, but I’ll likely lean towards XBox for this one as well.

Gears of War 2 hits the XBox 360 on November 7, and it’s a definite must-buy. The first Gears was an awesome shooter with great graphics and atmosphere and really enjoyable tactical shooting gameplay. The kicker for Gears 2 is that it’s got some really interesting multiplayer co-op features, and with two friends who will both likely be picking up the game as well, I’m getting pretty excited about some sweet squad-based action.

A few other games I’m interested in but not sold on yet are Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 for PC, The Conduit for Wii, and Swords and Soldiers for WiiWare.

This is to say nothing of my back-catalogue of games I haven’t found time to play yet. Where will I ever find the time!?
